Tired after attending events in San Francisco and do not feeling like driving home? With a few taps on the screen of your iPhone, you can secure a hotel room within minutes using HotelTonight.
Each day, starting a high noon, HotelTonight opens reservations in each of its cities (currently San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, and DC). You are presented with a choice of three hotels - Basic, Hip, and Elegant. Clicking on each choice provides additional information about the hotel and large photos of the property (sometimes including samples of what is available in the mini-bar.)
The chic Hotel Vitale is offered in the Elegant category today. Normally $251/night, it is available through HotelTonight for last minute booking at the rate of $169/night. They like it because of the super-clean modern style, loads of spa services, great location along the stunning and windswept Embarcadero, solid Italian-American standards at the aptly-named Americano Restaurant, and rooftop soaking tubs. The Fine Print notes that your room type will be a Superior Room with either a King or Two Queen Beds.
You can view a slide show of how the process works.
The application is currently available for iPhone, but I have heard reports that it will be available for Android and other platforms in the future.

[Full disclosure: I receive a $25 booking credit after you complete your first booking if you sign up through the link above.]
