When you’re the maker of the world’s number one Scotch whiskey, you can take some pretty big liberties, like creating a members-only club in China. Actually, creating two. The new club, which recently opened in Beijing, is a sister property to the one in Shanghai. Luxurious through and through, the Johnnie Walker House was deliberately opened in one of the busiest cities in the world, offering natives and travelers a unique dining experience where they can sample the first-rate spirits.
Both Johnnie Walker Houses offer a bar, museum, retail outlet and an exclusive member’s club. In the club, luxury abounds, offering members a variety of bespoke experiences to indulge in. Incorporating the basic elements of whiskey into the decor, the floors and walls contain copper, yeast, water, barley and peat. The club is situated on what was once the only royal road for Chinese emperors to attend sacrificial ceremonies, so there was clearly some deliberation when deciding on the location too.
Adds Gilbert Ghostine, president of Johnnie Walker parent company Diageo Asia Pacific, “The Johnnie Walker House in Shanghai has been our most successful experiment in marketing and commercial innovation in Asia to date. It’s the reason why Johnnie Walker House Beijing has been opened.”
At the Johnnie Walker House, guest can sample signature blends and private “whiskey-inspired” dining from the in-house chef. And because the vast amount of whisky might overwhelm their guests, the Johnnie Walker House offers an exclusive concierge service and relationship managers that will get to know the preferences of each guest to ensure that each experience is a first class one. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can learn more about the whiskey they love.
